Bats Back Pitching In Win

Williamsport, P.A. – Williamsport’s offense backed their pitching for the second time in three games, as the Crosscutters blanked the Scrappers 8-0 to take the series.

Kyle Young made a rehab start against the Scrappers, working three shutout frames, striking out two while not allowing a single hit. The only runners to reach against Young came on two Cutters errors, which did no harm.

Rafael Marchan got the Cutters on the board on a fielder’s choice, plating Matt Kroon in the bottom of the 3rdinning, giving the Cutters a 1-0 lead on Marchan’s 12th RBI.

The Cutters opened up their advantage in the bottom of the 5th inning, getting RBI from Lenin RodriguezBen Pelletier and Jake Holmes to make it a 5-0 lead, For Pelletier, it upped his RBI total to a team-leading 41, which is good for 2nd in the New York-Penn League. Three of the four runs in the inning came with two outs.

Jonathan Guzman extended the Williamsport lead with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Brayan Gonzalezto make it 6-0 Cutters on Guzman’s 14th RBI of the season.

The Crosscutters were beneficiaries of a Scrappers defensive miscue in the bottom of the 7th inning, as Jake Holmes slid into 3rd on a wild pitch, pitcher Adoni Kery threw wildly to 3rd and into left, allowing Holmes to race home to make it a 7-0 lead.

Williamsport again cashed in on a two Scrappers errors, as Lenin Rodriguez doubled home Matt Kroon to give the Cutters a 8-0 lead, capping the offense and giving Rodriguez his 4th RBI on his 3rd double.

Manuel Silva tossed five shutout frames, working around two hits and two walks and striking out five to earn his 2nd win of the season. Blake Bennett worked a scoreless 9th to close out the game and the win for Williamsport.

The Crosscutters head to Auburn for a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Falcon Park.
