Cutters Can’t Avoid Sweep

Batavia, NY — For the second straight night, the Crosscutters saw an early lead go by the way side, falling 10-4 to the Muckdogs, being swept in the process.

Nick Maton did not waste anytime getting the Crosscutters off and runner, drilling the first offering of the game off the wall in right field for a lead off triple, the first triple for Maton this season.

Yahir Gurrola plated Maton with a RBI single to center, giving the Crosscutters an early lead for the second straight game. The RBI was the 5th of the season for Gurrola, who was playing in his 7th game in a Cutters uniform.

Harrison White tied the game in the bottom of the 2nd inning, singling into center to score Sean Reynolds, knotting the game at 1-1 against Cutters starter Ramon Rosso.

The game would not remain tied for long, as Josh Stephen crushed a Sam Perez offering deep over the wall in right, scoring Maton and giving the Cutters a 3-1 lead in the top of the 3rd. The home run was the 2nd of the season for Stephen, giving him 24 RBI on the season.

Ramon Rosso answered with a three-up-three-down inning in the bottom of the 3rd inning, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the 4th.

Lazaro Alonso led off the 4th with a single, followed by a walk drawn by Ty Curtis for Sean Reynolds, who clubbed a two-run double to deep left-center, scoring both Alonso and Curtis to tie the game at 3-3.

Rosso was lifted from the game, seeing Zach Warren enter from the bullpen with a runner at 2nd and no body out.

Sam Castro gave the Muckdogs the lead, scoring Reynolds with a RBI single making it a 4-3 Batavia advantage, while capping a three-run inning.

All three runs were charged to Rosso, who allowed four runs over three plus innings of work. The right-hander walked three and struck out five in a no decision.

Greg Pickett pulled the game even, connecting on a solo home run to right, making it a 4-4 game in the top of the 6th inning. The home run was the 5th of the season for Pickett, who picked up his 18th RBI in process.

Zach Warren tossed three shutout innings of relief, allowing just one hit and a pair of walks. Warren struck out four batter, but would not factor into the decision.

In the bottom of the 8th inning, Batavia opened the flood gates against Damon Jones, scoring five runs, to give the Muckdogs more insurance runs then they would need.

Ty Curtis led off the inning with a single, which was followed up by walks to Sean Reynolds, Michael Hernandezand Harrison White, with the walk to White allowing Curtis to score from 3rd base, making it a 6-4 Batavia lead.

With the bases loaded an no one out, Demetrius Sims ripped a Jones offering inside the 1st base bag and into the right field corner, scoring Reynolds, Hernandez and White to give the Muckdogs a 9-4 advantage.

Jones was relieved by Jhon Nunez after the triple, having failed to record an out in the inning.
