Cutters Held Scoreless In Loss

Williamsport, P.A.- The Crosscutters offense was held in check in their 2-0 loss to the Mahoning Valley Scrapper to open the series.

Manuel Silva went the first 4.1 innings for the Crosscutters, working in and out of trouble for the majority of the start. The Scrappers got the Silva for two runs in the top of the 5th inning before Silva was lifted for Robinson Martinez. Silva allowed the two runs on five hits and three walks, striking out six.

Martinez allowed an inherited run to score, making it 2-0 Scrappers, and then went on to work 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. Martinez allowed three hits and struck out four while not walking a batter in the outing, including the last two batters he faced.

Jose Jimenez entered in the 7th inning, striking out the only batter he faced in the frame, leaving two runners on base. Jimenez finished the night, allowing one hit and striking out a pair of Scrappers while not issuing a walk.

The Crosscutters offense was held to four hits by four different batters, with the only extra base hit coming off the bat of Ben Pelletier, which was his team-leading 11th double, which came in the bottom of the 7th inning, giving the Cutters their first runner in scoring position.

Williamsport was only able to get two runners in scoring position on the night, stranding both of them as they went 0 for 3 with runners in scoring position on the game.

Cutter Carvings – It was the third time the Crosscutters have been shutout this season, all three have come at home… Cutters pitching combined to strike out 12 batters on the night… In the last 17 innings against the Scrappers (last two games) Cutters pitching has wracked up 29 strike outs, losing both games…
