Mexico Stays Alive With Statement Win Over Europe-Africa

Day 3 of the 2017 Little League World Series, the first elimination day of the series, opened at Volunteer Stadium with Mexico, represented by the Guadalupe Trevino Kelly Little League from Reynosa, Mexico, facing off against Europe-Africa, represented by the Emilia Little League from Emilia, Italy.

Mexico took control in this one early, as they started with back-to-back doubles from Isaac Miranda and Saul Soto, giving Mexico a 1-0 lead. Soto would then score during the next at-bat as Jorge Garcia hit an RBI single to bring the score to 2-0.

In the Top of the 2nd Inning, Mexico would add six more runs. With one out, Samuel Juarez and Diego Diaz would reach with back-to-back singles for Isaac Miranda, who would drive a pitch deep to Center Field for a three-run home run, making the lead 5-0. Saul Soto followed up with a single, and Jorge Garcia walked to set it up once again for Andre Garza. Garza would match Miranda, taking a pitch deep to left field into the parking lot beyond Left Field, finding a vehicle in the process, and his three-run home run would push the Mexico lead over Europe-Africa to 8-0.

The 3rd inning would see Mexico reach the ten run lead mark as Diego Diaz and Isaac Miranda would score on a 2 RBI double from Saul Soto, his second and third RBIs of the day. Mexico would also add three insurance runs in the fourth to bring their lead to 13-0, which would stand as the final.

On the defensive side, Mexico starting pitcher Andre Garza, along with relief pitchers Jorge arcia, Francisco Elizondo, Erick Vazquez, and Rosendo Cantu would combine to throw a four inning no-hitter against Europe-Africa.

For Mexico, they move on to another elimination game on Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Volunteer Stadium, facing the loser of Japan and Asia-Pacific. For Europe-Africa, their hopes of a world championship come to an end today, but they will still have one more game as they face the loser of the Mid-Atlantic and the Great Lakes in a consolation game on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Howard J. Lamade Stadium.
